Description

Breeding deer are healthy fawns of clear origin, selected for raising for antlers, meat, or breeding. Prices vary depending on the breed (Sika, Russian), sex, and age, usually ranging from 10-30+ million VND per animal (depending on the time and source). Choose male deer with a high forehead and sturdy build for antlers/meat; choose healthy, fertile females for breeding; prioritize those with clear origins and health certificates to ensure quality.

Common Breeding Deer Types

Sika deer: A common breed, easy to raise, good for antlers and meat.
Russian deer (Rusa): Imported, capable of producing thick antlers, high productivity, and good adaptability.
Huong Son deer: A characteristic breed of Ha Tinh, famous for its quality antlers and meat.

Criteria for Selecting Breeding Deer

Breeding male deer: Choose those with good parents, a large forehead, sturdy build, and strong legs. If raising deer for antlers, prioritize those with fathers that produce large antlers.
Female deer for breeding: Choose those with a well-proportioned body, small head, bright eyes, slender belly, and long tail. If raising for reproduction, choose those with fertile mothers that produce plenty of milk.
Health: Choose deer with good resistance to disease, few illnesses, and a health certificate.

Reference prices for breeding deer (2024-2025)

Sika deer fawns (4-6 months old): 10 – 15 million VND/animal.
Small male breeding deer: 17 – 20+ million VND/animal.
Small female breeding deer: 14 – 16+ million VND/animal.
Mature male deer: 25 – 35+ million VND/animal (may be higher for selected breeds).
Mature female deer: 18 – 22+ million VND/animal.

Experience in Raising Deer

Purpose: For meat production, select healthy, fast-growing males. For antler velvet production and breeding, prioritize selecting deer that meet the correct breed criteria.
Feed: Grass, fig leaves, jackfruit leaves, sweet potatoes, corn… Combine with starchy foods (root vegetables, corn) during the antler velvet season.
Disease Prevention: Deer are easy to raise but require prevention of hemorrhagic septicemia and other diseases.
